Chairman's Message

The ABCD was formed in 1989 and its purpose at that time was for Local Authority DSO Building Cleaning Managers to get together with each other to swap information mainly on issues/problems brought about by CCT. Branches were formed and still remain in the Midlands/South, North West and North East. 58 Local Authorities are currently members. The branches then formed a National Executive Committee.

Benefits

The benefits of membership are gained from meeting other like-minded managers who share or may have experienced some of the problems you are encountering. All our members enjoy the opportunity to network at the regular branch meetings - some of the meetings will have a guest speaker talking on a subject of the day (eg, some new legislation on a Health and Safety matter). Topics of regular discussion include Safeguarding,BSF,the impact of Job Evaluation and many others. The thing our members most enjoy however, is being able to discuss confidential matters in an open forum, knowing that the issues would not be discussed anywhere else.

Other major benefits come through our Annual Training Days which is a hugely successful event (90 delegates in 2009) and has subjects & workshops for Senior and Middle Managers and Supervisors. This is a full day's programme at a reasonable price.

The Annual Conference/Exhibition takes place in May each year and is another opportunity to network with colleagues from around the country. We regularly have top class speakers on subjects of the day, usually on the latest legislation.

Other members of ABCD are major companies in the cleaning industry which offer good discounts to our members on bulk purchases and colleges and other training providers which provide industry qualifications.

We truly believe that our subscription charge represents excellent value and that ABCD offers something that no other organisation can by being the self-help association that deals with day to day issues in the cleaning industry and other associated services.
